Time for a good, old-fashioned throwback!

This week for #ThrowbackThursday we featured Franconia alum Bridget Beck and her whimsical PlayStation. In her honor we’re even throwing back the blog to a Bridget style post. Here goes:

For those of you at work sneaking a glimpse in between meetings, here’s the abridged version Bridget named:

Some Sculpture Park Scoop

We’ve announced our 2015 Artist Opportunities. Shipping Wars on A&E made a guest appearance at FSP. The leaves on the trees are nearly all gone meaning more and more sculptures are visible while driving down Highway 8. Planning for Big Art Here has begun and we’re having some important conversations about Placemaking. Loretta is getting ready to jump the pond for a few weeks to celebrate New Year’s in London. And if you’ve seen our Facebook page, you know that Franconia is a featured destination in a statewide scavenger hunt.

If you called in sick today so you can have a long weekend, here’s the full story:

Checkpoint MN and Explore Minnesota Tourism have a social media event underway to get you out and about exploring the state. Come take your picture in front of Playstation and share it on social media with #OnlyInMN. Don’t forget to create an account on Checkpoint MN to be entered in a chance to win some winter prizes. There are 12 sites in total and they are all across the state so hurry up and go explore Minnesota!

All Aboard!

Have you thought about applying to Franconia before? Well now’s your chance! We’ve recently announced our 2015 Artist Opportunities including calls for Fellows, Intern Artists, Arts Admin Interns, Hot Metal Artists and Interns, and of course proposals for exhibitions at the Casket Gallery. With all of these opportunities it’d be a shame not to apply!

Lights, Camera, Action

Have you ever wondered how we move sculptures from the work pad to their site in the park? Or what happens to a sculpture after we deinstall it? Well, voila-A&E’s Shipping Wars will show you all that, and more! The crew was on site documenting the process of moving BIG art; it wasn’t easy but thankfully Paul, Hugh, and John were up for the challenge. We will be sure to let you know when you can look for John Hock on the big screen.

The Characters

The cast of characters around here is always in flux so here’s a little cheat sheet: John-CEO/Artistic Director Mindy-Development Manager Loretta-Office Manager Shelby-Education and Program Coordinator Hugh-Site Manager Paul-Assistant Site Manager And yours truly, Rebecca-Program Assistant

And in other news

Last night’s game of Scrabble was a real doozy, in which Paul and I learned that “Qi” is one of the acceptable q-without-u words, and to not count ours eggs before they hatch. It came down to a one point difference in the end. So where do we stand now in our ongoing Scrabble Battle? Paul is in the lead, but winter is long and I won’t go out without a fight so stay tuned for more scrabble updates.

Don’t Forget

Franconia is open 365 days a year, dawn ‘til dusk. So come on by, snap a selfie with Playstation, and Start Seeing Sculpture
