Some Sculpture Park Scoop: 2014 was a fantastic year here at the Park and we’re eager to tell you all about it in this video; Deadlines for many of our artist opportunities are quickly approaching: Fellows and Intern Artists, get those applications in ASAP! (Hot Metal Artists you have a little extra time); Longtime alum Bobby Zokaites, and his infectious laughter, made a guest appearance at the Park recently to show us what he’s been working on; Checkpoint MN is running until March 5 so if you haven’t taken a selfie with Playstation yet, you’ve still got time; Arts Advocacy Day in MN is coming up on Feb 19; and lastly, it’s almost time for the Valentine’s Day Iron Pour!
Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the iron furnace is so delightful…
Well the weather actually hasn’t been too frightful, but cozying up by a warm fire still sounds delightful. And why have a small indoor fire when you can warm up by a 2,700 degree furnace? On *Saturday, February 14th*, Franconia Sculpture Park will be hosting its annual *Valentine’s Iron Pour*. Come by anytime between 12 PM and 5 PM to watch as Tamsie Ringler and her talented crew turn cold, gray iron into a red, hot liquid.
Catch the (Fe)ver
Don’t want to just watch? You can make your very own mold to be poured that day! We are offering two more scratch block workshops to create a unique tile of your own design. The workshops are filling up fast so be sure to reserve your spot for either February 7th or 8th. The workshops are complimentary with the purchase of one of our molds – $30 for a small or $75 for a large. Each workshop runs from 10 AM-4 PM and attendees must arrive no later than 3 PM. If you need some help getting started, can’t think of what to carve, or not sure what tools to use, Franconia’s staff will be there to answer all your questions and guide you through the process. Want a sneak peak of what to expect? Let Franconia’s Pet Pig walk you through the process in this quick tutorial.
This family-friendly event is sure to give you and your loved ones tons to talk about – so go ahead and grab that special someone, a thermos of hot chocolate and Start Seeing (and Making) Sculpture!
